By the mid-80s, our five icons ruthlessly lord over their empires with seemingly nothing and no one to keep them in check. As tabloid journalism explodes, they embrace becoming a new type of celebrity, validated by a fawning public that fantasises about living that way too. The insatiable quest for fame becomes an insidious driving force, and the tabloid media has become complicit in pushing our characters to new heights. But underneath the camera-ready facades, cracks in the empires are starting to appear.
