Engineering Reborn

Originally a fire station, the new Port Building is a stunning, gravity-defying structure of concrete pillars, glass and 9000 tonnes of steel that appears to hover over the 19th century fire station. It has a borehole energy system that pumps water to a depth of 80 metres below ground to provide heating and cooling, making it one of the most energy efficient office complexes in Europe.
