Italian fishermen take Buchner and Berndt, the survivors of U-949, to Naples where they meet the ragged crew of U-330. Hannie is working for the evacuation centre after Koch intervened on her behalf. She bonds with one of the girls, Herta. Hoffmann says good-bye to Hannie and Lessing. He is to go to Naples on a mission. Helped by Ehrenberg he manages to escape Schulz and is on his way to Italy.
