Gabriel Firth, ex-MP and home secretary, is planning a party to celebrate his retirement, but things are not as they seem as he is secretly bankrupt. His concerns increase when his ex-mistress returns. A series of spiteful attacks on the manor ensue and suspicion falls on Firth's recently dismissed employee but when the acts of vandalism turn to to attempted murder the constabulary look elsewhere. Greengrass and David are hatching a new money making scheme which could have explosive results.
