The World from Above

This journey begins at the Homestead National Monument of America, a commemoration of the Homestead Act, a law providing land to new settlers. The capital city of Nebraska is Lincoln, named after President Lincoln in the 1860s, and a hundred kilometres to the north-east on the Missouri River is Omaha, the largest city in the state. In 1819 a series of forts was built along the Missouri River and Fort Atkinson was to be the first. It has recently been faithfully restored.
