The Frontier
Origins
As the United States advances west, the true nature of the land is revealed. What appeared to be a boundless empty terrain was in fact a richly inhabited landscape of diverse indigenous peoples who were not about to surrender their lands without a fight. After centuries of exposure to European diseases decimated the native population, the 1800s saw a new reign of terror. President Andrew Jackson's 'Indian Removal Act' saw the forced displacement of over 60,000 Native Americans from their ancestral homelands.
