Great Coastal Railway Journeys
Morecambe to Grange-Over-Sands
Michael Portillo continues his rail journey taking in the Isle of Man and the north-west coast of England. From Morecambe he looks out across the vast and beautiful Morecambe Bay, alive with cockles and brown shrimp. The Bay is famous for its potted shrimp and Michael joins one of the town's last shrimpers to learn how it's made. Michael's next stop around the Bay is Arnside on the Furness Line, where he discovers a magnificently quirky seventeenth century garden surrounding an Elizabethan manor house, Levens Hall. Michael joins the head gardener and his team as they clip the garden's vast topiaries into shape and is rashly let loose with the shears.
