Tyga Bayles

Harold 'Tiga' Bayles has been described as the voice of Aboriginal Australia, but he was so much more than this to his siblings and children. Raised in Central Queensland under the oppressive Aboriginal Protection Act, Tiga struggled with his identity until he moved to Brisbane in 1970, where he was activated by the Black Power movement. His articulate media voicing of economic independence via Land Rights was instrumental in the NSW Land Rights movement, the establishment Radio Redfern and Australia's first commercial Aboriginal radio station, 98.9FM Triple A Murri Radio and eventually the Murri School.
