Scotland's Scenic Railways

Scotland's Scenic Railways

The Jacobite Steam Railway

On the West Highland line, the Mallaig extension runs from Fort William to the coastal town of Mallaig. On the way, it cuts and climbs through some of Scotland's most awe-inspiring and diverse terrain. When this 41-mile line was completed in 1901, it connected sleepy Mallaig with the rest of the country, transforming the town into a busy and bustling fishing port.
